Capulin Volcano formed between 56,000 and 62,000 years ago, and today its cinder cone rises more than 1,000 feet above a high desert plain. Consisting of loose cinders, ash, and other rock debris ejected during a series of eruptions, this formation is unique in that lava never flowed from the main crater, allowing the cinder cone to maintain its pronounced symmetry.
Celebrate the unique geology preserved at this New Mexico park by donning our Capulin Volcano National Monument ball cap, featuring the name of the park and a symmetrical cinder cone formation embroidered on the front.
