Tumacacori was the first mission established by Spain in what is now Arizona. Constructed on ancestral land of the O'odham, the church of San Jose de Tumacacori was a focal point of this mission community. Here O'odham, Yaqui, and Apache people met and mingled, in conflict and cooperation, with missionaries, settlers, and soldiers.
