San Francisco Maritime National Hist. Park Postcard - Alma Illustration
Alma is a wooden-hulled scow schooner built in 1891. Its flat-bottomed hull was designed to navigate the shallow waters of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and to rest on the bottom at low tide. With few bridges and connecting roads, scow schooners delivered goods all over the Bay and Delta, much like trucks do today. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1988 and is preserved at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. Send this ship sailing on a new journey through the postal service with our San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park postcard.
