These turquoise fishhook earrings by Navajo artist Robert Taylor are a beautiful example of his signature overlay technique. Crafted from sterling silver, each earring features cut-out stamped designs with Kingman turquoise inlays forming the eyes of the weaver motif. The balance of silver and stone creates dimension, giving the earrings both elegance and depth.
Born at Indian Wells on the Navajo Nation, Robert was raised in a family where creativity was woven into daily life—his father was a medicine man and his mother a weaving artist. From a young age, Robert helped his father and siblings with metals, gradually developing the skills that would shape his artistic path. After years of working in construction, he turned fully to jewelry-making, creating pieces that highlight his refined overlay technique in both silver and gold.
Care instructions: To clean sterling silver earrings, you can use a simple method involving baking soda and hot water. Mix baking soda with a little water to form a paste, apply it to the earrings, gently rub, rinse, and dry. You can also soak them in a solution of warm soapy water, rinse, and dry. For a more intensive cleaning, a combination of baking soda, salt, and vinegar in an aluminum-lined bowl can be used, followed by rinsing and drying.
