A benchmark is a permanent mark established at a known elevation and used as the basis for measuring the elevation of other topographical points within a given area. They also happen to look cool, which is why we produced this metal walking stick medallion replicating the benchmark for Sandstone Peak at Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Sandstone Peak is the highest point within the Santa Monica Mountains, and can be reached via trails that start at Circle X Ranch, a former Boy Scout camp tucked in the canyons above Malibu.
