C.A. Thayer is a wooden-hulled, three-masted schooner built in 1895 to carry lumber. The original hull was made of dense, old-growth Douglas fir carefully chosen for shipbuilding. The ship was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and is preserved at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.
