Alma is a wooden-hulled scow schooner built in 1891. Its flat-bottomed hull was designed to navigate the shallow waters of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and to rest on the bottom at low tide. With few bridges and connecting roads, scow schooners delivered goods all over the Bay and Delta, much like trucks do today. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1988 and is preserved at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. You can carry a memory of your visit to San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park wherever you go when you buy this custom-designed pin. A metal butterfly clutch attachment securely fastens this pin to any fabric surface.
