The California condor is the largest flying bird in North America. Its wingspan can reach nearly 10 feet from tip to tip. When in flight, this huge bird glides on air currents, soaring as high as a 15,000 feet. They live to an average age of 60, and as such are slow to mature. This is why their preservation is so important.
