This glass ornament is unique because it is hand painted using a process called bolihua, a reverse glass painting technique that has been practiced in China since the early 18th century. The painting is done from the inside through the holes at the top and bottom of the glass globe using special narrow brushes and pointed sticks. Each piece has the design detail applied in layers over several days. This ornament is painted with an image of the meeting of the Union Pacific No. 119 and the Central Pacific No. 60 (better known as the Jupiter) locomotives to commemorate Golden Spike National Historical Park.
