This Ganado Red rug by Diné (Navajo) weaver Mary Kee of Klagetoh, Arizona, reflects one of the most recognizable and historic Navajo weaving styles. This rug is woven from sheep wool using both natural and commercial dyes, featuring the deep red background characteristic of Ganado weavings. A central serrated diamond motif in gray and black anchors the design, framed by strong geometric borders.

Ganado Red rugs originated in the Ganado, Arizona area in the late 1800s and early 1900s and feature bold central diamond designs set against deep red backgrounds. Today, Ganado rugs remain one of the most iconic Navajo weaving styles, recognized for their strong composition, balanced geometry, and rich color palette. Mary Kee’s weaving continues this historic tradition through careful wool preparation, strong design, and skilled hand weaving.
