The bighorn sheep is one of the most majestic and hard-to-find creatures in North American deserts. Bighorn sheep are named for their large curling horns. Both male and female bighorn sheep have horns, but only the males use their horns to engage in battle with one another, ramming their heads together to establish dominance. Bighorn sheep live in some of the most remote and protected areas in the West, preferring open terrain near rocky refuges where they can escape from predators.
