Evidence of human activity in what is now Bandelier National Monument dates back more than 10,000 years, from early nomadic hunters who pursued large game animals through the area, to the height of permanent settlement, which peaked around 1350 CE. The Pueblo Loop trail, a 1.4-mile scenic round trip, takes visitors through Frijoles Canyon, and winds through notable ancestral Puebloan structures built during this peak of dense settlement. The trail allows visitors an up-close look at kivas, the settlement at Tyuonyi, expansive cliff dwellings, and an impressive volcanic landscape.
