Padre Island National Seashore is a key sea turtle nesting ground. Sea turtles create the nests, which are essentially just holes deep in the sand, and lay their eggs where they like, but NPA conservationists move those nests to protected areas. They do this so that they can monitor the eggs in an effort to increase the number of eggs that hatch and the number of hatchlings that survive. Visitors can watch the release of hatchlings periodically throughout the summer; a special treat for those visiting Padre Island National Seashore.
