These mosaic inlay shell earrings by Santo Domingo artist John Aguilar showcase a masterful blend of tradition and color. Each earring is set on a hand-carved shell and adorned with turquoise, coral, jet, and mother of pearl, inlaid in a striking geometric mosaic. The sterling silver French hook findings are handmade by John himself, ensuring every detail is crafted with care.

John learned the intricate art of stone-on-shell mosaic from his mother-in-law, Mary Lovato, a respected jeweler and teacher. His technique reflects the Santo Domingo tradition of inlay work, a craft deeply rooted in community and family. For John, every piece is an extension of heritage, shaped by the hands of those who came before him.

Care instructions: To clean sterling silver earrings, you can use a simple method involving baking soda and hot water. Mix baking soda with a little water to form a paste, apply it to the earrings, gently rub, rinse, and dry. You can also soak them in a solution of warm soapy water, rinse, and dry. For a more intensive cleaning, a combination of baking soda, salt, and vinegar in an aluminum-lined bowl can be used, followed by rinsing and drying.
