These Kingman turquoise overlay earrings by Navajo silversmith Wesley Begay feature brilliant Kingman turquoise stones set within sterling silver designs that combine two forms of artistry: precise stamping above and refined overlay work below. Together, they create a piece rich in dimension and detail.
Wesley, from Cornfields, Arizona, grew up surrounded by art—his mother was a master rug weaver, and his father specialized in inlay jewelry. Though he spent decades managing facilities for local schools, he returned to jewelry full-time after retirement in 2018. Choosing to focus on overlay work, he brings to life traditional Navajo forms with fresh interpretations.
The Kingman turquoise, prized for its vivid blues, is the centerpiece of these earrings, contrasting beautifully with the polished silver. The overlay technique adds depth, while the stamped motifs nod to time-honored designs. Lightweight and versatile, the earrings carry both elegance and cultural meaning.
Care instructions: To clean sterling silver earrings, you can use a simple method involving baking soda and hot water. Mix baking soda with a little water to form a paste, apply it to the earrings, gently rub, rinse, and dry. You can also soak them in a solution of warm soapy water, rinse, and dry. For a more intensive cleaning, a combination of baking soda, salt, and vinegar in an aluminum-lined bowl can be used, followed by rinsing and drying.
