These petroglyph appliqué earrings by Navajo artist Kee Yazzie blend ancient inspiration with contemporary craftsmanship. The appliqué designs, inspired by petroglyphs from Jeddito near Keams Canyon, Arizona, evoke timeless symbols etched into stone, now carried into wearable art.
Born in 1969 in Ganado, Arizona, Kee studied architectural and drafting design in college, skills that shaped his eye for precision and structure. A self-taught jeweler since 1995, Kee developed his craft through experimentation, guidance from silversmith Ray Scott, and workshops with Duane Maktima’s Pueblo Five Design Institute. Today, his work is celebrated for its intricate detail and cultural resonance.
The appliqué technique layers silver upon silver, creating depth and shadow. Each symbol is carefully placed, transforming the earrings into storytelling objects that honor Southwestern Indigenous heritage. Lightweight and elegant, they are versatile enough for modern wear while carrying the voice of ancient traditions. With Kee’s artistry, these earrings connect past to present, offering a piece that is as meaningful as it is beautiful.

To preserve the beauty and finish of your sterling silver jewelry, avoid exposure to water, lotions, perfumes, and harsh chemicals. Store in a cool, dry place when not in use. Gently polish with a soft jewelry cloth to remove tarnish and restore shine, and wear it often—regular wear helps prevent tarnish from forming.
