Gary Custer was influenced by his parents, longtime Diné silversmiths known for traditional sandcast jewelry dating back generations. After initially working as an auto technician, Gary turned to silversmithing in 1989 and developed his skills through dedication, practice, and exposure to his family’s work. His tufa cast and stamp work reflect both traditional Navajo techniques and contemporary design. The dragonfly, a symbol of endurance and the ability to overcome hardship, adds deeper meaning to this powerful and beautifully crafted bracelet.
