In 1775, Captain Juan Bautista de Anza began an epic expedition that would change history. Anza was joined by more than 240 settlers, soldiers, and several thousand head of livestock gathered from locations as far south as Culiocán, Mexico. Together they made the difficult 1,200-mile journey from Tubac, Arizona, to San Francisco, California. The journey was filled with challenges and obstacles, yet perseverance and loyalty ensured the success of the expedition. This is their story (in Spanish and English).
