It is said that in 1971, Charles G. Orsinger (King Antonio) issued what was considered the first official Fiesta medal. Orsinger was a prominent member of the San Antonio community, known for his military service and Buick dealership. During his reign as King Antonio, he collected coins from the children and punched holes in the middle. This led to the creation of the Fiesta medal. Since then, the tradition built momentum, and medal collecting hit its peak in the 1990s. Today, fiesta medals are created, produced, and made to celebrate and share among fiesta goers. Locals collect these medals and show them off every year at Fiesta events.

It just so happens that this year's Fiesta also conincides with the 300th anniversary of Mission San Jose's founding!
