Postcards are affordable ways to commemorate your travels to national parks and share those adventures with friends and family. You can send them, keep them for yourself, or even send them to yourself! This postcard representing Washita Battlefield National Historic Site features a map detailing the events and movements that took place on November 27, 1868. Lieutenant Colonel George Custer and the 7th U.S. Cavalry attacked the winter encampment of Cheyenne Peace Chief Black Kettle along the Washita River. The attack implemented one element of the U.S. Government's new Indian policy and signified the struggles of Southern Great Plains tribes to maintain their traditional homelands.
