In 1804 President Thomas Jefferson ordered an expedition to explore the land acquired in the Louisiana Purchase. One of the tasks given to the Corps of Volunteers for Northwest Discovery leaders Meriwether Lewis and William Clark was forging diplomatic relationships with the American Indians they met. Lewis and Clark presented tribal leaders with Jefferson Peace Medals as a token of goodwill. These medals featured Thomas Jefferson on the front; on the back were two clasped hands below a crossed axe and peace pipe, surrounded by the words "Peace and Friendship." Now you can carry this symbol of goodwill with you wherever you go when you buy our Jefferson Peace Medal replica keychain.
