Bandelier National Monument Main Loop Trail Guide
Evidence of human activity in what is now Bandelier National Monument dates back more than 10,000 years. The earliest inhabitants migrated through following game animals. The people who did settle in Frijoles Canyon are known as Ancestral Puebloans. The Main Loop Trail lets visitors experience the area settled by these Ancestral Puebloans, and this trail guide details 21 unique points of interest along the trail. The trail itself covers 1 1/4 miles for visitors to experience all 21 points of interest, and is comprised of a combination of paved path, inclines, and steep, narrow stairs leading to cliff dwellings and Long House. Alcove House is an additional 1-mile round trip.
