Hopi pottery gets its glowing character through the use of specific clays; gray clays that turn shades of apricot when fired, and yellow clay that turns red. Minerals in the clay then create uneven, but lovely golden patterns when fired. This piece is unique in that it was crafted by a married couple, one Hopi and one Zuni. So, this piece takes on some of the traditions of both tribes.
