History states that the original potters of Isleta crafted plain red ware devoid of intricate design. Then in the late nineteenth century, people from Laguna Pueblo moved to Isleta, a pueblo on the Rio Grande just south of Albuquerque. This influx from Laguna introduced the Isleta to the concepts of polychrome based on the Laguna style. The combination of the two cultures led to the mixture of colors with white, which turns them into soft pastels. Modern Isleta pottery includes these traditions along with an ever evolving style.
